NFC card guide

How to use your NFC card

Hold the card against the phone for about two seconds. A notification appears. Tap it to open the digital profile. No app to install.

Watch a tap

This is the same motion on iPhone and Android: keep the card flat and still until the phone reacts.

Four steps on almost every phone

  1. 1

    Wake the phone

Unlock it and leave the screen on. A locked or sleeping phone will ignore the card.

  2. 2

    Turn NFC on

iPhone does this for you. On Android, switch NFC on in quick settings or in Settings.

  3. 3

    Hold the card still

iPhone: top edge. Android: upper back, near the camera. Two seconds is enough.

  4. 4

    Open the notification

Tap the banner or “Open link”. The profile opens in the browser. The phone needs internet for the page to load.

Choose your phone

The tap spot and the NFC switch are different on each brand.

iPhone

iPhone XS, XR, and every newer iPhone, including SE (2nd and 3rd generation). The screen must be on and the phone unlocked.

  1. 1.Unlock the iPhone. You do not install an app, and you do not turn NFC on.
  2. 2.Hold the top of the phone — the end with the camera — flat against the card for about two seconds.
  3. 3.A banner drops down from the top of the screen. Tap it. Safari opens the profile.

iPhone 7, 8, and X

These models do not read the card by themselves. Open Control Center, tap NFC Tag Reader, then hold the top of the phone on the card. If the button is missing, add it in Settings → Control Center. iPhone 6s and older, and iPads, cannot read this card.
